NEW BOOK STUDY TO BEGIN MAY 8, 2019 No book study on May 1 All are welcome to join us for a new book study on Tuesday mornings at 11:00 am - 12:30 pm. We will be reading and discussing C.S. Lewis' book, The Screwtape Letters. "This Classic has entertained and enlightened readers the world over with its sly and ironic portrayal of human life and foibles form the unique vantage pint of Screwtape, a highly placed assistant to "Our Father Below." At once wildly comic, deadly serious, and strikingly original, C. S. Lewis give us the correspondence of the worldly-wise devil to his nephew Wormwood, a novice demon in charge of securing the damnation of an ordinary young man. The Screwtape Letters is the most engaging account of temptation--and triumph over it ever written.” ALL ARE WELCOME !
Sunday, April 28, 2019 Hello Friends, Sunday Forum will meet at 9:15am, Workman Lounge, Sunday morning. Sunday Forum is place to make new friends, to consider topics that may not be common in your daily conversations, and to connect religion with the world. Join us around the table for sharing fellowship and ideas. The more people present, the better will be our discussion. Topic for the Day: Japan and the World, the World and Japan Japan has very long history and deep culture. Since WWII, the economy of Japan has expanded exponentially. It is one of the strongest economies in the world. People enjoy very high standard of living. At this time, 75 years after WWII, the culture has changed in many ways but has remained traditional in other ways. Foreign "impact" of ideas and culture has occurred. Change has happened but much of the historical culture remains unchanged. Very few people immigrate to Japan. The government policy limits immigration. The Japanese language is central to identification as Japanese people. Few people, even in major cities, speak foreign languages. Nearly all public signs in train stations and streets are only in Japanese. Foreign visitors are welcome and treated very well but it is difficult for foreign visitors to get around without language or local friends to help. The impact of WWII continues to be felt by people in Japan. The Japanese constitution was "written" by the USA at the end of the war. To this day, there are fundamental clauses in the constitution that impact on daily life. Join us on Sunday morning as we share some of our recent impressions from Japan. Bill
The Episcopal Church celebrates diversity, honors tradition and transforms hearts and lives. We strive to live by the example of Jesus Christ, welcoming the stranger and the outcast, helping our neighbors and offering forgiveness and love. We walk the “middle way” between Protestant and catholic traditions. The liturgy (the way we do church) and the sacraments (actions that we believe are visible signs of grace) are very important in the life of the Episcopal Church. Often we also walk the “middle way” in our theology and debates. We don’t believe that everyone has to agree with each other – but that we can enter into thoughtful, respectful discussion on a range of issues. TRINITY EPISCOPAL CHURCH WELCOMES ALL !
April 21, 2019 Hello Friends, We will not have Sunday Forum on Easter Sunday. Join us on 28 April for regular Sunday Forum. If you enjoy the daily writings of Richard Rohr, I encourage you to check his writing for today, 19 April. He always offers fresh food for thought. In today's message he says that Jesus did not die FOR the sins of the world but rather BECAUSE of the sins of the world. It was the injustice of the systems of domination that killed him. The injustice of religious leaders, of government leaders, of routine daily life that was part of the normal living. Does this ring any bells about our lives today? Do we have injustices today that are so commonplace that we do not recognize them as "injustice"? Was Jesus guilty or innocent? This is a question for reflection as we celebrate the Easter week. Have a wonderful Easter season---see you at Forum next week. Bill
GOOD FRIDAY, APRIL 19, 2019 For our sake our Redeemer suffered death and was buried, and rose again. With heartfelt love let us adore him, and pray: Lord, have mercy on us. Christ our teacher, for our sake you were obedient even to accepting death, - teach us to obey the Father's will in all things. Christ our life, by your death on the cross you destroyed the power of evil and death, - may we die with you, to rise with you in glory. Christ our King, you became an outcast among us, a worm and no man, - teach us the humility by which you saved the world. Christ our salvation, you gave yourself up to death out of love for us, - help us to show your love to one another. Christ our Savior, on the cross you embraced all time with your outstretched arms, - unite God's scattered children in your kingdom of salvation.
Holy Thursday, April 18 Loving Provider, you gather me in this upper room with your son, to be fed by your love. At that supper, Jesus told us to "love one another" and I know that is the heart of his gift, his sacrifice for me. I ask that I might find the source of my own heart, the meaning for my own life, in that Eucharist. Guide me to the fullness of your love and life.
Please join us this evening at 6:00 pm for an Agape Meal in the sanctuary. Items needed are Mediterranean foods such as are nuts, cheese, breads, grapes, humus, vegetables and wine or grape juice. Please bring food to church. The Maundy Thursday service will begin at 7:00 after the Agape Meal. On Good Friday, the church will be open from 12-3:00 for prayer and meditation. Rev. Nancy will be available. The evening service begins at 7:00 pm. Easter Sunday, the service is at the regular time of 10:30. We will not have Sunday Forum on Easter.
JOIN US THIS EVENING, APRIL 16 AT 7:00 PM FOR THIS SERVICE OF THE SHADOWS. .
Wednesday, April 17 My Savior, do you invite me to share in the glory of the resurrection? Please stay with me as I struggle to see how accepting the crosses of my life will free me from the power of the one who wants only to destroy my love and trust in you. Help me to be humble and accepting like your son, Jesus. I want to turn to you with the same trust he had in your love. Save me, Lord. Only you can save me.
April 16, 2019 God of such unwavering love, how do I "celebrate" the passion and death of Jesus? I often want to look the other way and not watch, not stay with Jesus in his suffering. Give me the strength to see his love with honesty and compassion and to feel deeply your own forgiveness and mercy for me. Help me to understand how to "celebrate" this week. I want be able to bring my weaknesses and imperfections with me as I journey with Jesus this week, so aware of his love.
God of love, My prayer is simple: Your son, Jesus, suffered and died for me. I know only that I cannot have real strength unless I rely on you. I cannot feel protected from my many weaknesses until I turn to you for forgiveness and your unalterable love. Help me to share this strength, protection and love with others.
Saturday, April 13, 2019 Loving God, Your eternal watchfulness keeps me safe from harm. I am filled with a great happiness when I feel your endless love for me. Thank you for your care for me, one of your children. I ask you to protect from harm those who will soon be your children, joined in the joy of your church. Please continue to pour out your blessings on all of us who have been given the lifegiving waters of baptism.
Friday, April 12, 2019 Most forgiving Lord, again and again you welcome me back into your loving arms. Grant me freedom from the heavy burdens of sin that weigh me down and keep me so far from you.
Thursday, April 11, 2019 Lord, all I want is to be faithful to you in my life, but so often I fail. Free me from my many sins and guide me to the life I will share with you. I wait for your promise to be fulfilled with great hope in my heart and your praise on my lips.
Wednesday, April 10, 2019 Loving Creator, I know in your great love for me, you see the deep sorrow in my heart. Hear my prayers which are offered with such trust in you. Be with me in both mind and heart as I renew my life in your spirit.
Tuesday, April 9, 2019 Loving God, You have heard my complaints, my impatience. Sometimes I become frightened when I move away from you. Guide my heart back to you. Help me to think beyond my own wants and to desire only to do you will. Thank you for the many blessings in my life and for the ways I feel your presence.
Monday, April 8, 2019 Father of love, I know that you are the source of all that it good and graced in my life. Help me to move from the life of sin to which I so often cling, into the new life of grace you offer me. You know what I need to prepare for your kingdom. Bless me with those gifts.
